We saw mixed information Monday -- the Leading Economic Indicators for February dropped %0.2 percent after a half-percent rise in January. So, investors see a slowing economy, but little sign of inflation as of late. Many hope to hear that echoed when the Fed gets together for it`s regular monthly policy meeting next Tuesday.
The Dow lost -5.12 (-0.05%) to close at 11,274. The NASDAQ added +7.63 (+0.33%) to finish at 2,314.11. The S&P 500 lost -2.17 (-0.17%) to close at 1,305.08.
Local stocks split the session for the most part. Tyson Foods (TSN) added +1.42% to close at $13.55. JB Hunt (JBHT) added +1.64% to close at $22.99. Acxiom (AXCM) lost -1.17% to finish at $26.09. Wal-Mart (WMT) added +2.29% to finish at $47.76 and Alltel (AT) lost -1.67% to close at $65.45.
In terms of economic figures today -- we`ll see the Producer Price Index for February, and we have no major earnings to follow today.
Overseas in Asia, the Nikkei gained nearly %2 percent at the mid-day break in Tokyo. Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator fell -0.79 (-0.08%) to close the night at 1,688.19.
