As we head into spring many folks in Northwest Arkansas enjoy going to Beaver Lake.
This year we noticed a big difference. Water levels are far below normal for this time of year.
About 350-thousand folks in Northwest Arkansas are supplied with water from Beaver Lake.
While the water level is well below average, the US Army Corps of Engineers says there is no threat to the water supply.
Ranger Alan Bland says this time of year they are normally using hydro power generating for electricity, but are holding back some to conserve.
Ranger Bland says the low levels are a problem for boaters. Problems arise with the bottoms of their boats getting damaged. There are 1600 private docks on the lake and many have had to move them in order to keep them afloat.
Ranger Bland says the last time the water levels were this low was in 1984.
The only water now taken from Beaver Lake leaves for water supply and through simple evaporation.
