Suspect Sought in Stinky Situation

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
It`s a story we hate to bring up, but it`s the story of a serious crime. One that may have been intended as a joke, but has few laughing at the University of Arkansas. KNWA`s Alexa Hamblin has more. It`s something no one wants to hear about, but it`s been the talk on campus for the past three months. Someone is making a real mess in one university building. Someone has been defecating in trash cans on the second floor of Kimpel Hall and spreading human waste around the fifth floor men`s restroom. There`s really been only one reaction to the crime, from faculty and students alike. "Oh my God! Who would do such a thing? I mean, who would spend their time spreading it everywhere?" student Nicholas Snyder asks with disgust. Two weeks ago marks the third strike for the person a custodian refers to as the "mad pooper." It may sound silly, but no one on campus is taking the situation lightly -- especially campus police. Lt. Gary Crain with the University of Arkansas Police says, "We`ll be watching carefully to try and make sure it doesn`t happen again, and if it does, find out who`s doing it." The culprit struck once in January, February, and now in March -- with the most recent and most disgusting act of criminal mischief taking place two weeks ago. It`s unclear who the sick crime is meant to target, but the custodial staff has become the real victims. "Why are you doing that to our custodial workers? Of all people... they`re so good about cleaning up after us, that`s the people that have to deal with it," says Administrative Assistant Chad Andrews. Lt. Gary Crain says once arrested, the culprit will be charged with criminal mischief. A misdemeanor crime that can mean up to a year in jail. Charges could be increased if there`s a chance the person could transmit a communicable disease. For KNWA, Northwest Arkansas News, I`m Alexa Hamblin.
