Chief Prjects More Crime, Wed 5th, 2006

Numbers show violent crime in Springdale went up more than 100 percent between the years 2000 and 2005. Chief Kathy O`Kelley says the city will see more homicides, rapes and aggravated assault in 2006. Chief O`Kelley says the reason for the projected increase is a lack of officers. Right now the department`s officer to civilian ratio is lower than the national average. Springdale has 105 police officers for 62,250 residents, a ratio of 1.7 per 1,000. The national average is 2 per 1,000 residents Springdale`s violent crime percentage is lower than the national average.
