Investors got surprised by the ISM Index Wednesday, which came in at 60.1 versus an expected 59 -- those gains in the services sector resulted in five year high marks for the NASDAQ and the S&P 500. In all, the Dow gained +35.70 (+0.32%) to close at 11,239.55. The NASDAQ gained +14.39 (+0.61%) to finish at 2,359.79 and the S&P 500 added +5.63 (+0.43%) to close at 1,311.56. Local stocks posted mostly positive results. Tyson Foods (TSN) lost -2.05% to close at $13.41. JB Hunt (JBHT) added +2.16% to close at $22.69. Acxiom (ACXM) added +1.83% to close at $26.12. Wal-Mart (WMT) gained +0.80% to finish at $46.87 and AllTel (AT) gained +1.40% to close at $65.00. In terms of economic figures due out today, we have one -- initial jobless claims for the week behind. Again, no component companies report earnings today that we follow. Overseas in Asia last night, the Nikkei rose +179.81 (+1%) to reach 17,423.79 at the mid-day break in Tokyo. The broader Topix added +21.27 (+1.2%) to reach 1,767.32. Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator rose +1.13 (+0.07%) to close the night at 1,733.87.
