In Springdale around 50 Northwest Arkansas residents came together Sunday at Murphy Park to oppose illegal immigration. The organization is called Patriots on Watch-- they say our nation was built on laws and it must remain that way.
Just a few weeks ago at this very same park, over 3,000 people protested congressional discussions to restrict immigration. Now, a different group-- Patriots on Watch--say they want to be heard too.
"We just feel the politicians are letting us down. They took an oath of office, and theyre not representing us," says co-founder Gary Windham.
Organizers say they did not form in response to those protests, but something must be done. And Windham says the guest worker program is not the solution.
"In just over six years they will have amnesty. They will be rewarded for breaking the law. Our country was built on laws... they are what make our country."
Don Carter is also a co-founder. He says Americans need to take back their country.
"That Mexican flag is flying over our American flag... right here in America is where that happened."
Not everyone at the rally was a member. Some were simply observing, others came to voice their opinions.
"This is not an immigration problem... this is military invasion by other people."
"America is America! My great grandmother came over here from Germany and she had to learn to speak English."
"You might not think it now... but Ive seen it in other places. One day, youll come to this park, and not be welcome."
But Windham says if something isn`t done now, it might be too late. "We need to look ahead. We need to think about our children and grandchildren. What kind of America will they have? What are we going to leave them?"
Organizers also say companies who hire illegal immigrants need to be held accountable, so Monday they will be picketing outside the Tyson plant in Lowell beginning at 1:00 pm.
