Moving Mobile Homes

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
Despite over an hour of discussion and some emotional pleas from resident`s Tuesday night, the Rogers Planning Commission decided to recommend a rezoning to the city council. Betty Fields has lived at the Longview Mobile Home Park for nearly six years. Now, like many of her neighbors, she said she has no where else to go. "I have one income, it`s a small income, and I can`t afford to move the trailer," Fields said. The planning commission recommended the city rezone the park as affordable housing, and if approved by the city council-- park residents will have to move. "This is the most economical place we`ve ever lived, when they talk about their low cost housing, this is it. We`re on social security, it`s not gonna be easy," said park resident Theda DeVos. "Where are we all gonna go? Especially if we all have to move at the same time? I don`t want to move, because this is one of the better parks anywhere around here," said Ephram Butler, a two year resident. Fields added, "I don`t know what I`m gonna do because like I said, my paycheck is $72 a week, how are you going move a trailer on that kind of income?" Park owner Adam Black declined to comment.
