Burglars Caught In The Act

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
The victim`s neighbor, who has asked not to be identified, says this area is very quiet. So when she noticed two vehicles slowly circling the area, she knew something was wrong. This woman and her husband were enjoying a quiet night on their screen porch... reading a book and looking at their beautiful view of Beaver Lake. But around 10:00, they suddenly became very suspicious while watching two vehicles slowly drive around their neighbor`s house on Rivercliff Road. They remembered their neighbors were out of town, so they called police. "He yelled at them to put their arms up in the air. My husband, at the time, thought he heard a gunshot, but it might have been the fella jumping out of the window." This couple--- Marcus and Shannon Emery were arrested a short time later. Both suspects are charged with two counts of residential burglary and two counts of felony theft. More felony charges are expected. Although this eyewitness says in their 19 years of living here, while it`s been very peaceful, people are considering some type of neighborhood watch program. "I was talking to a neighbor about that, and I think that would be very important." As advice, if you become suspicious of something bad happening, regardless of how trivial you think something might be, she says call police. "It`s better to play it safe than not to." And this neighbor says she feels great knowing that two less criminals are out on the streets, and that she potentially helped save someone`s life. "My husband has been calling me the crime stopper, just as a joke!" Both Marcus and Shannon Emery are being held right now at the Benton County Jail waiting on their first hearing. Police suspect the couple also tried to rob an employee of the Rogers bowling alley at gun point last week.
