Friday, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation announced it would place a six month moratorium on applications for ownership changes for industrial loan companies.
Wal-Mart applied for FDIC insurance on July 19th of 2005, hoping to open an ILC based out of Salt Lake City.
Wal-Mart says it wants to open the ILC to process credit and debit applications, but the banking industry is concerned Wal-Mart will compete for customers using its retail operation.
