The move will cost about 1,200 people their jobs.
The Springdale, AR-based company will close its beef slaughter plant in Boise, ID and scale back processing at its Pasco, Washington complex in October. All of the 270 jobs in Boise will be eliminated and about 500 jobs will be lost in Pasco.
Boise and Pasco workers will be able to apply for jobs at other Tyson locations.
Earlier this year, Tyson Tyson consolidated beef plants in northeast Nebraska.
The Boise plant has been part of Tyson Foods since September 2001, when the company acquired IBP, inc. IBP had owned the plant since 1976.
