Drama students teamed-up with the Siloam Springs Fire and Police Departments for a staged car crash Friday, just before Prom.
According to Fire Chief Greg Neely this marks the second year they've conducted "Operation Safe Prom".
And even though it was a performance, students say seeing their classmates being carried away on stretchers, leaves a lasting impact.
"You hear of people that are in car accidents and they get injured and they never fully recover from them and I completely understand that now, I really do. I mean mentally emotionally physically," says
"It has a very profound impact, when they see the lights, the sirens, hear the screams, see the parents, it sends the message home and that's what we want to do," says Chief Neely.
USA Metal Recycling donated the two cars used in the wreck scene and Wasson Funeral home was there to take one of the actors away on a gurney, all to show students what happens when people drink and drive.
