Bobby Petrino Issues Statement About John L. Smith Hire

About one hour after John L. Smith landed in Fayetteville to replace Bobby Petrino as Arkansas' new head football coach, Petrino issued a statement to KNWA-TV in Fayetteville about the school's decision to hire his mentor and friend.

The following statement is from former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino and was sent by his agent, Russ Campbell:


"I think Jeff Long made a great hire. While there were several outstanding internal candidates, John L. brings a lot of head coaching experience to the table that will help Arkansas transition. He will unify the staff, the team and the Razorback fan base. I wish Coach Smith, his staff and the Arkansas football team the very best."
