The Arkansas Music Pavilion is expecting one of it's biggest shows in history. Saturday, Hank Williams Jr. comes to Fayetteville, but the show is also signaling good news for the future of the local music scene.
The AMP's general manager, Brian Crowne, said, "This will be the largest attended show for the amp."
For the 2012 season, the AMP changed locations from the Northwest Arkansas Mall to the the Washington Fairgrounds, giving the venue a chance to expand.
Crowne added, "That's the exciting part about being out here at the fairgrounds this year, our new home, we've got lots of room to grow."
Crowne and his crew have been building a bigger stage for Hank Williams Jr., giving hope to some that larger acts could continue to come to Northwest Arkansas.
Radio DJ, Jake McBride said, "The names can get nothing but bigger."
McBride works at KIX 104, and he believes that if the AMP fills up, the acts will start to come, creating a destination for more popular music.
"This will put Northwest Arkansas on the map that has normally been like a travel day between Tulsa and Little Rock."
"You sell more tickets, you put more people in the seats, then the bigger acts are going to be able to approach."
Crowne said that's exactly the plan, especially with the new location at the fairgrounds, "We have the ability to do shows inside the AMP in a traditional format or going really festival style like we are with Hank."
Crowne said the shows will continue, "We'll get a few of them this year but next year they're going to know we are here and they're going to know we're going to do a great job and we'll treat them well, and we know how to produce a show."
