Update: Person Hit On 540 After Car Accident

By: Tom Yazwinski
Updated: April 30, 2012

Two people were injured on Interstate 540 Monday morning, after a car hits someone getting out of their vehicle.

State troopers say Phillip Stickney pulled over on the Winslow on-ramp to help a driver that hit a median barrier and was stalled on the inside lane of the interstate.

As Stickney was getting out of his car, investigators say a vehicle driven by Joe Lucius swerved to avoid the stalled car and sideswiped Stickney's car, hitting him.

Stickney and Linda Lewis, a passenger in Lucius' car, were both taken to Washington Regional Medical Center with injuries.

Lewis was treated and released.

Stickney's condition is unknown.
