State Employee Killed In Shooting

Van Buren Police say a state worker was shot to death outside a rest stop on Interstate 40 near the Lee Creek exit.

The shooting occurred around 6:00am. Lt. Staggs say a suspect is in custody and that the gun police believe to have been used in the shooting was found.

Five to ten people were at the rest stop at the time of the shooting. All witnesses were questioned and released.

The rest stop was shut down for almost three hours while investigators examined the scene.
