Locals met with city officials on Monday to discuss the proposed route and provide input.
Plans call for a half-mile extension of the Frisco Trail from its current dead-end point at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, connecting it to Walker Park.
A big topic of Monday's conversation was safety, specifically at crosswalks.
Matt Mihalevich, Trails Coordinator for the City of Fayetteville, said discussing the proposal with locals would help find answers to some challenging aspects of the project.
According to Mihalevich, there are two highways the trail would cross, so finding favorable and safe approaches for crosswalks in those areas is important.
The city is in the design phase now, but hopes to start on construction by 2013 if funding is available.
