Fort Smith Police continue to investigate a fatal motorcycle accident this weekend.

It happened just after eight Sunday night when police say a van turned left from Grand onto 12th street and hit a motorcycle. The rider of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital where he died. Police have not yet released his name.

Police say the driver of the van, 34-year old Gilberto Carreon, parked at a nearby convenience store before walking away. A witness got his attention and convinced him to head back to the scene of the accident until police arrived. Carreon is charged with leaving the scene of an accident and held on $100,000 bond.
