Early Voting Leads to Street Corner Campaigning

Early voting started Monday at county courthouses around Northwest Arkansas. 

The polls will officially open 2 weeks from Tuesday, but Monday gave candidates, and their supporters, a chance to campaign on a street corner. 

Will Watson held signs close to the Washington County Courthouse, he said, "Today is all about visibility."

Cristi Beaumont is running for Circuit Judge in Washington and Madison Counties, and Monday she waved to passing cars, she added,  "It builds you up, having people come by and say, 'go, Christi' and thumbs up."

Both are hoping early voters will notice there signs and campaign tactics. 

Beaumont said, "If you are going to be a public servant you need to meet the voters, you need to meet the people in the community, and see what they say, and what they feel, and that's why I'm out here."

Watson is supporting another candidate, Democrat hopeful, David Whitaker, who is running for state representative.

Watson said, "I'm committed to helping David Whitaker get elected in District 85."

"We're in one of the few contested democratic primaries in Northwest Arkansas, so I think it's really important that we be out here, (that) people see that we are fighting hard for the nomination."

And over the next 14 days the street corner campaigning might continue, at least as long as there's a chance of voter conversion.
