Springdale Firefighters estimate about 50 gallons of diesel leaked from a tank for a city generator early Monday, ending up in Spring Creek. Springdale Firefighters responded by 8:20 a.m., and pinpointed the origin of the leak. The fuel had traveled downhill about a block, trickling into Spring Creek where it runs along Mill Street. A leaking fuel hose for a generator behind city hall was the culprit. Firefighters and a Haz-Mat crew were able to clean up the mess with booms -- absorbent tubing that skims the fuel off the top of the water. Firefighters say there is no fire danger, since the fuel is diluted in the creek, and most of it has been trapped by the booms. They say they are doubtful there would be much of an environmental impact. The Department of Emergency Management will ultimately determine the diesel leak`s impact on Spring Creek. City crews picked up and disposed of the booms by three o`clock Monday.
