Fayetteville High School started this year without their School Resource Officers.
The federal grants the Fayetteville School District was receiving for school resource officers are all dried up. So for the first time in years, Fayetteville High School started the school year off with no police officers on campus.
That is until this week. Through a joint funding effort by the city and the school district two officers will now be back on the high school campus. The school district will pay the officers their hourly wage, and the city will pick up all other expenses.
Fayetteville High School has over 2000 students and the resource officers say they know their role on the campus is vital.
They develop good relations with the kids so they can serve as a counselor and offer security.
The school district hopes to get a few more resource officers by the end of the year for their junior high.
