A Fayetteville high school teacher is suing the school district.

Superintendent Vicki Thomas has instructed teacher Tim Hollis take anger management counseling sessions before returning to campus.

In a letter, she said it stems from an inappropriate and defamatory email Hollis sent to another teacher.

But according to Hollis' attorney Ken Swindle, the school has taken illegal actions and said his client has never had any problems during his 27 years at Fayetteville High School.

"If the school will not follow their own procedures, their own administrative procedures, there is no other way around it other than filing a lawsuit and enforcing his rights."

In a Facebook post, Mr. Hollis stated, "I am not sorry for anything that I have said or done. I have been standing up for teachers' rights."

The lawsuit was filed Tuesday and Swindle hopes the issue will be resolved quickly.

An administrator with the district said they will not be commenting on this case as it is a personnel issue.
