The company says the new 3G network allows high-speed access to cell phones designed for the higher speed, as well as process wireless data over consumers` high-speed capable phones or on a laptop.
Cingular`s 3G network provides average download data speeds between 400- 700 kilobits per second with bursts to over one megabit, company officials said. The company currently provides 3G services in more than 80 cities and towns located nearby more than 20 major metropolitan markets.
