Six years ago Judy Ingram started the search for her daughter's killer.

"It's one thing to lose Nina and I know that she's gone, but the pain from not having closure is tremendous," says Judy Ingram, Nina's mother.

So Wednesday, Judy Ingram's prayers were answered, with a phone call.

Fayetteville Police say they arrested 26 year old Rico Tavarous Cohn on capital murder charges in connection with Nina Ingram's murder.

Over the phone, Judy Ingram told us, "I'm overwhelmed with emotions and really excited. This is an answer to prayer."

Even though the news is welcome, she says it's too hard to talk on camera, but this is what she said in an interview from April of this year, on the sixth anniversary of Nina's death.

"You just don't give up, your passion gets greater. Just because the years past don't mean anything, you just keep on," says Judy.

And her persistence finally rewarded.

"I'm going to cry, but I don't care.  It's extremely difficult.  No mother should ever have to lose their child like this," says Judy.

21-year old, Nina Ingram was found strangled, inside her Law Quad apartment on April 22, 2006.

And every year, her mother came back, hoping something would develop.

"I will come back as much as I need to, as much as necessary until it does get closed," says Judy.

Talking to the media to help turn up new leads.

That's exactly what led Fayetteville Police to make this week's arrest.

Now Judy might be able to find the answers to difficult questions she's asked over and over again.

"Why did you do this?  And why are you such a coward that you don't show up and admit it."

For the last six years.

"I would say as a mother, it's H-E-L-L."

"You don't know what it's like when they're suddenly taken from you for no reason."

According to Police Chief Greg Tabor, in April of 2012, a detective was specifically assigned to conduct a full case review to try to gather new information and possible leads.

After several recent news stories about the six-year-old case, Fayetteville Police received some information that helped them make an arrest.

Officers say this investigation is still ongoing.  If you have any information on this crime, please call the Fayetteville Police Department at (479) 587-3555.
