Drivers Ignore Height and Weight Limits on Historic Bridge

The Benton County Road Department wants to protect the historic War Eagle Bridge from large vehicles.
A motor home crashed into a set of angle irons placed at the entrance to the bridge Tuesday.
The road department installed the protective measure to stop cars before they can damage the old bridge, but last week another vehicle hit the irons and kept going.
The department plans to place new signs up about clearance and weight limits. Employees also plan to ask the County Judge about banning big trucks or campers from using the bridge.
