The 72-year-old Pryor was admitted to UAMS Monday after complaining of chest pain.
Pryor`s son, current U.S. Senator Mark Pryor issued a statement Tuesday that stated, "My father`s doctors are prescribing the necessary treatment for a full recovery. It is a comfort to know that he is under the care of some of best doctors in the nation at UAMS."
Pryor also said his father had remained physically fit since his last heart episode 14 years ago, and that he watched his diet and exercised.
David Pryor served as Governor of Arkansas from 1975 to 1979, when he won election to the United States Senate. Pryor served three terms in the senate, and retired from politics in 1997.
