John Brown University broke ground on a 17,000 square foot banquet hall Wednesday morning.

The Simmons Great Hall will be built next to the college's cafeteria, adding extra seats for students during lunch.

The banquet hall will also be used to host community events. The building will seat five hundred people and can be divided into three separate rooms, according to a release.

The building is expected to be completed in August, 2013.
