Alltel reported fully diluted earnings per share of 60 cents, an 11 percent increase from the previous year. Among the highlights for the third quarter: - Revenues were $2 billion, a 12 percent increase from a year ago. Net income was $402 million, up 11 percent. Net income from current businesses was $230 million, a 17 percent increase from a year ago. - Alltel added 829,000 customers, up 14 percent over the same period last year. In addition, the company gained 101,000 net new customers, which includes 75,000 post-pay customers and 26,000 pre-pay customers, an increase of nearly 400 percent over last year.
Alltel operates America`s largest wireless network, which delivers voice and advanced data services nationwide to more than 11 million customers. Headquartered in Little Rock, Ark., Alltel is a Forbes 500 company with annual revenues of $8 billion.
