Corrections officer sentenced for false IRS claims

Janice Koontz of Texarkana pled guilty in July to filing false claims against the U.S.
According to court records, Koontz obtained the names, addresses, social security numbers, and other identifying information of at least 12 individuals incarcerated at the Bi-State Justice facility in Texarkana.
Koontz then gave the information to co-defendant, Colleen Jordan, who used the information to prepare and file false W-2 forms and false 2003 United States Income Tax returns and submitted them to the IRS.
During the time the false tax returns were prepared and filed, Jordan worked for the professional tax preparation company Jackson Hewitt, in Atlanta Texas. The total amount of false claims was $52,678.00.
Koontz will serve five months in federal prison, and then five months home confinement.
