Illegal immigration has become a hot topic during election season in Arkansas. Both gubernatorial candidates have spoken on the issue while touring the state, but we wanted to know what their plans are to help solve the issue of policing illegal immigrants, if they were elected to office. Republican candidate Asa Hutchinson says he wants to train Arkansas State troopers in immigration enforcement. He says it would expand the state`s capability and answer a need since local police are virtually powerless to detain illegal immigrants Mike Beebe, on the other hand, says state troopers are already overworked and the only way to combat illegal immigration is to allocate funds to bring more federal immigration agents into Arkansas. Both candidates agree that a partnership between federal and state government is a must. Voters will decide which plan the state will be using when they cast their ballots for governor on Tuesday.
