A Benton County teacher has been fired after being accused of hitting a 12-year-old student.

On Monday, Rogers Police received a report that Pamela H. Nelson, a teacher at the Benton County School of the Arts, had hit a male student in the back.  After an investigation Nelson, 57, from Springdale, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Battery.

The school's superintendent, Dr. Paul Hines, said he recommended the board terminate the Nelson's contract.  This recommendation was based on facts and evidence, according to Hines.  he said they talked to everyone involved in the situation, including witnesses.  He also reported documenting a mark on the student's back.

The board met on Tuesday evening and approved the decision.  This was Nelson's first year at the school , where she taught middle school choir and keyboarding.

Nelson is still being held in Benton County Jail.
