The University of Arkansas baseball program will be well represented in the 2012 Major League Baseball playoffs as three former Razorbacks have helped their team to the postseason. Craig Gentry of the Texas Rangers, Eric Hinske of the Atlanta Braves and Drew Smyly of the Detroit Tigers will be looking to get their team to the World Series.

Gentry and the Rangers open postseason play on Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Wild Card playoff game. The one-game playoff will be televised on TBS. If the Rangers win, they would advance to the AL Divisional Series against the New York Yankees, which begins on Sunday, Oct. 7 with first pitch set for 5 p.m.

Gentry has played in 121 games for the Rangers during the 2012 season and is hitting .304 with a homer and 26 RBI. He has also added 13 stolen bases, which ranks third on the team.

Hinske and the Atlanta Braves will also begin their journey to the World Series on Friday as they face the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Wild Card playoff game. First pitch is set for 4:07 p.m. and the game will be televised on TBS. If the Braves defeat the Cardinals on Friday, Atlanta will advance to the NL Divisional Series against the Washington Nationals. The NLDS begins Sunday with game time set for 2 p.m.

Now in his 11th Major League season, Hinske has played in 91 games and is hitting .197 with a pair of homers and 13 RBI.

Smyly and the Detroit Tigers won the American League Central Division title and start postseason play on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics in the AL Division Series. First pitch for Saturday's game is set for 6 p.m.

Smyly has been a key part of the Tigers pitching staff in his rookie season. The former Razorback has pitched in 23 games, including 18 starts, and has a 4-3 record with a 3.99 ERA. Smyly has struck out 94 batters in 99.1 innings and opposing hitters are batting just .247 off the left hander.
