The City of Springdale welcomed a brand new middle school on Friday.

Teachers, students and Governor Mike Beebe held a ceremony to dedicate the new Sonora Middle School.

Principal Shawna Lyons said the new facility is a fixture in the community, and since the final touches were complete it was time to celebrate.

"From the fresh paint to the waxed floors to the brand new carpet, it's a very exciting time for staff, for parents, and for students," said Lyons.

The new school currently holds 750 students and 45 staff members.
