Jane Ray lost her daughter Olivia in 2009 after she was hit by a car while walking across a crosswalk.

"She felt it was safet o cross and a third car coming along did not see the intersection and immediately hit her. She passed away four hours later," said Jane.

Jane now works to ensure safety for students on the UA campus during crosswalk safety awareness day.

"I believe that messages like this, it they're continually put before you, that impression will stick. It will help students on this campus, specifically where the crosswalks are. With 20,000 students, that's important."

Students like Cassidy Cunningham, who is shedding light on safety on the streets.

"It's just a good way to remember Olivia and show people how important it is to be noticeable in crosswalks. I think it's really important after what happened to let people know and be aware of safety on crosswalks," said Cassidy.

Holding signs, highlighting a cause close to their hearts.
