The two mayoral candidates in Fayetteville squared off for the final time and hoped to sway undecided voters.

"These people are the ones running the city that we're living in, and they make decisions every day that affect us in a variety of ways," said undecided voter Sharon Heldt.

Current Mayor Lioneld Jordan and former Mayor Dan Coody faced off in the final forum Tuesday night. The two gave opening statements, answered a few prepared questions, and then took questions from the audience town hall style.

"Government officials should always be an ear to hear and a voice to speak for the people," said Jordan.

"A real give and take with the citizens, that's true democracy," said Coody.

Both candidates had to think on their feet and give unrehearsed answers. For folks on the fence like Heldt, Coody and Jordan's performances will play a major role at the polls.

"You get a bit more of their personality and a little more of the truthfulness of what their positions are... I'm interested to find out what their positions are and see that it coincides with what I think Fayetteville should be."

Voters became educated about where the candidates stand on issues like job creation, paid parking and regional efforts.

"It's important for us as the citizens of the city to be well informed as to what their opinions and feelings are regarding those things so that we can make sure that we like who it is and that we agree with who it is that's in office."

And like many other undecided voters, Heldt will consider the closing statements when she casts her vote November 6.
