Instructors from Benton and Washington Counties are hoping that they can see more students graduate high school. They are learning on how to do that with at the Graduation Summit in Springdale on Thursday.

The event is put on in hopes that students like Zack Reed leave high school with a diploma in hand.

"It feels great to know that people are honestly sticking behind you and helping you, wanting you to graduate," said Zack.

But Zack's teacher is learning some new skills to help kids stay focused.

"I'm excited to see everyone come together with the one common goal of the student. Today, we are more designed towards the individual student as opposed to when I was in school, everybody was educated the same way. Today, we are individualized," said Watkins.

Arkansas Education Commissioner Tom Korbell urged the audience today to turn the page on the old ways and find new methods for teaching in the classroom.

"We have to develop an educational system that is vastly different that the one we have today. For a parent, and I am a parent, it's important that schools are evolving into meeting the future needs for students," said Korbell.

A day filled with teachers, hoping to fill the minds of the future.

"Arkansas has continued to improve, but it's improved too slowly. We're in the right direction but we need to speed up the train."
