"Support the Troops NWA" founder David Williams Jr. set up a donation spot in the Northwest Arkansas Mall Saturday, collecting items to send to the 142nd Field Artillery and the 362nd PSYOPs unit in the Middle East.
"Christmas and Thanksgiving is such a critical time for the troops because they`re missing their family, they`re missing their loved ones and it`s real important that we take a stand and show them that we support them 100-percent in what they`re doing," Williams said.
The organization also encourages monetary donations to help cover expensive shipping costs. "Each drive, we run into the thousands of dollars in shipping costs, so monetary support, whether it`s a corporation or through an individual, is very critical to what we do."
Williams says he started "Support the Troops NWA" as a way to show his appreciation for the sacrifice soldiers make to serve their country...and he`s pleased by the support the community has shown his cause.
"What started out as just a real small thing has now ballooned into the establishment of the non-profit and "Support the Troops NWA" coming about. Each drive just keeps getting bigger and we`re able to help more and more soldiers."
You can also make donations at any Arvest Bank branch...Just ask to donate to the "Support the Troops NWA" account.
