"This is something that's a celebration for the entire state of Arkansas," Homecoming Director Abigail Brumfield said.

University of Arkansas homecoming is making an impact not just on students and alumni, but the whole community,

"We definitely had a shift this year toward philanthropic events this year."

With events throughout the week like a chili cookoff.

All the food was donated to Seven Hills Homeless Shelter in Fayetteville.

Other events had more of a monetary impact.

"One of the initiatives we worked with was reworking out "Create a Hog" program where students donate money and we were able to raise over 11,000 dollars this year toward March of Dimes, so that was an incredible honor and we're so looking forward to presenting that check to them."

The charity work doesn't stop there.

Students and faculty raised 300 dollars for troops in Afghanistan, donated 1,300 of units of blood to the Red Cross and collected 11,000 cans for food banks, all this week.

"The effect this has on Northwest Arkansas is one of those things you just cannot put a price on and it is something we're incredibly proud of this year," Brumfield said.
