Web Extra: The Arkansas Razorback Fight Song

By: KNWA News
Updated: November 14, 2012
The Arkansas Razorbacks fight song dates back to the 1920s.

Hog fans have no trouble humming the theme, but do you know all the words?

We found them on the Arkansas Alumni website, as follows:
Hit that line! Hit that line! Keep on going,
Take that ball right down the field!
Give a cheer. Rah! Rah! Never fear. Rah! Rah!
Arkansas will never yield!
On your toes, Razorbacks, to the finish,
Carry on with all your might!
For it's A-A-A-R-K-A-N-S-A-S for Arkansas!
Fight! Fight! Fi-i-i-ght!

What's the history of the fight song?
According to the University of Arkansas, an undergraduate student named William Edwin Douglass wrote the lyrics to a spirit song in 1913. He showed it to his music teacher, professor Henry Tovey, who later set the words to music.

Pictures of the original music can be seen in "The University of Arkansas Razorback Band, A History, 1874-2004," by T. T. Tyler Thompson.
