Salvation Army Kettle Campaign Kicks Off

"There's that old song, 'It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas' and we look at the bells as it's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas," says Major Tim Williford of the Salvation Army of Northwest Arkansas.
A signature sound begins to echo for a signature fundraiser.
"The Salvation Army has been doing this since about 1892," Williford says.
The annual red-kettle campaign kicked off Thursday with a ceremony at Harps in Rogers.
"For us locally, it's about 10 percent of our annual budget, to other Salvation Armies, it can be 30 to 40 percent," Williford says.
Cash, or coins, for a cause -- helping local families, when they need it most.
"It's Christmastime, and we're here," Williford adds. "We're ready to help meet the needs of the community, we can only do that with the help of the community."
Nearly 60 locations will have a red kettle out front this holiday season, and the Salvation Army of NWA is hoping to raise nearly $400,000.
