Thanksgiving will be filled with food and fun for all the family, that includes the furry friends, too!

So, to keep the cheer in the air, Dr. Ayres has some a few ways to keep your furry friends feeling festive.

"This is a season that's going to be having lots of good snacks and goods, but those aren't always the best idea for our pets," said Dr. Erin Ayres, a veterinarian at Wedington Animal Hospital.

"Any dog that's not use to having people food, this can be a time of year that gives them an upset stomach. If we give them chick or turkey, not just the typical chocolate, that's going to make them sick."

You may be surprised by just what can contaminate your kitty.

"You want to keep any extra plants that you might have in the house, specifically poinsettias, up out of the cats reach, because a lot of the plants that we bring in over the holidays can actually be toxic in cats," said Ayres.

The Christmas tree can too, can cause problems for your pets.

"You want to pay attention to any kind of tinsel or small decorations that might break or that they can get a hold of," said Dr. Ayres.

Just a few tips from the vets, hoping they don't have to see your pets anytime soon.

If you are leaving for the holiday, be sure to board your pet. Local veterinarians have open spots your dog and cat.
