West Fork Woman Killed in Accident on Highway 170

A West Fork woman is dead after an accident Wednesday morning involving a garbage truck.

The accident happened just before 7:30 am Wednesday on Highway 170 West of I-540.

According to the accident report, 54-year-old Wylladean Richards died when the van she was riding in struck the rear of a garbage truck stopped on the side of the road.

The driver of the truck was standing at the back loading trash when the van carrying Richards approached from the West.

The driver of the van didn't see the truck until it was too late and was unable to stop.

The van swerved to the left, striking the garbage truck operator and the rear of the truck with the passenger side of the van where Richards was sitting. She was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the van and the garbage truck operator were also injured and taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville for treatment.
