Fayetteville Roundabout Opens to Traffic

Fayetteville drivers took their first crack at a new roundabout at North Hills Boulevard and Futrall Drive Wednesday morning.
"Everybody's confused," says driver Brandon Karn. "I pulled up and didn't know it was being done it was like 'Oh, whoa. What's going on?'"
Police were on hand to direct traffic, and Sergeant Shannon Gabbard says the intersection will take some getting used to.
"Just be patient," he says. "Take your time. There's no hurry."
Gabbard says drivers simply need to look to the left before entering the roundabout
"Make sure that your left is clear, and if your left is clear, then there's not going to be anything coming from your right," he says. "It's actually less of a hazard if you think about it. You're not having to look for two way traffic anymore."
Once you are on the loop you have the right of way, Gabbard says, so don't stop at the entrance ramps.
"As they see traffic flowing through here, as they're entering in themselves, they'll quickly figure out how it works," he says.
The inner lane of the roundabout is still closed for construction, which will probably take two more months.
