A Fayetteville man accused of attempted capital murder for shooting a police officer was in court Monday.

According to the Washington County Prosecutor's office, the trial for Sergio Andrade-Martinez began Monday with witness testimony.

Police say Martinez fired several rounds at officers from the balcony of his Bedford Loop Apartment last March during a standoff with officers. Officer Blake Williamson was shot in the right leg.

Martinez faces several charges of Attempted Capital Murder as well as drug and gun charges.

After undergoing surgery and several weeks of physical therapy, Officer Williamson did return to the police department in June.
