Architecture students at the University of Arkansas got some building experience Monday... but it's not what you're thinking!

These guys crafted structures out of cans!

It's the annual Can-struction event at the U of A.

First-year design students from the Fay Jones School of Architecture collected canned and boxed food, then built sculptures out of them.

After doling out awards for the best designs, the food was donated to local food pantries.

"It's important for our first year students to become a part of the community that they're going to spend the next four to five years in, and right now there's a big need for food in Northwest Arkansas, so it's good outreach to help the community out," says Fallon English, a mentor in the Fay Jones Leadership by Design class.

Monday's Can-struction brought in 1,015 lbs. of  food donations to the UA's Full Circle Campus Food Pantry.

The university has hosted the Can-struction competition for the past five years now.
Since then, UA students have collected and donated more than 17,000 food items!
