Penn State QB Matt McGloin Wins 2012 Burlsworth Trophy

The best walk-on in college football was honored in Springdale Monday.

Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin took home the Burlsworth Trophy for 2012, presented by the Springdale Rotary Club.

The annual award is awarded to the most outstanding college football player in the country  who started as a walk-on.

McGloin says it's a special path all its own.

"For walk-ons, it's completely different," he says. "You have to earn it each and every day, and as a football player, you should want to earn it every day. That's always the mentality I have, and for kids out there that want to play Division 1 football, scholarships or not, you want to earn it no matter what."

The Burlsworth Trophy is named after former Arkansas Razorback Brandon Burlsworth who walked on to become a three-year starter and an All-American.

He was picked up by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1999 NFL draft, but died shortly after in a car accident.

The Burlsworth Foundation was created in his memory and supports the physical and spiritual needs of children, in particular those children that have limited opportunities.
