The grandparents of a two-year-old who died in a hot car are expected to head to trial Thursday. William and Margette Staten are charged with misdemeanor negligent homicide in connection with his death. Investigators say they took their great-grandson with them to the Springdale Walmart on Pleasant in August. The couple went inside and told police they forgot the child was in the car and thought they'd been in the store for about 45 minutes. But the investigation shows the two year old had been left in the car for more than two hours. When police arrived, the boy didn't have a pulse and was pronounced dead at Northwest Medical Center. If convicted, the Statens could each face a year in prison.
