Man Stabs Brother, Lies to Deputies So Mom Wouldn't Find Out

An northeast Arkansas man was arrested after lying to police about stabbing his brother with a knife so their mother wouldn't find out they were fighting.

According to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call of a stabbing and found that Jeremy Liles had cuts to his neck and his brother, 26-year-old Steven Liles, had cuts on his arms.

According to the report, the Liles brothers told deputies that a man in a white truck attacked them with a knife after trying to steal their propane tank.

Deputies found a nearby white truck, but the two men inside said they saw the two brothers fighting when they drove by just a short time prior.

After speaking with the Liles brothers a second time, Jeremy told deputies that Steven cut his neck, then punched out a window, causing the cuts to his arms. He also told the deputies that they made up the story about the white truck because they didn't want their mother to know they had been fighting, according to the report.

Steven was taken to the Lawrence County Jail, where he tried to escape by running out the back door. However, he ran right into the deputies who had just arrested him, and was subsequently handcuffed to the chair while being booked.

Steven Liles was charged with first-degree battery, obstructing governmental operations and escape.
