Hundreds of runners hitting the pavement with the Fayetteville Half Marathon kicking off Sunday morning at the John McDonnell Outdoor Track Complex.
Runners navigated a course through the U of A campus, Scull Creek Trail and Dickson Street.

The event also featured a community fundraiser 5-k and a one-mile fun run.

UALR graduate John Purvis is the winner of the 2012 race, finishing in just over one hour.

Folks trekked from across the country to lace up their running shoes.

And some are hoping their hard work and positive attitudes will have an impact on those around them.
"It's very inspiring to people who are on the bench about whether they should start exercising when they see someone cross the line they can relate to," says Rachel York, the first female to cross the finish line.
2012 marks the third year for the event and the half-marathon wrapped up with a post-race celebration sponsored by Hog Haus and Common Grounds.
