Inmates Help Build Pea Ridge Public Library

Benton County inmates are working to help Pea Ridge build a new library on the cheap.
Crews spent the day hanging drywall, and building official Tony Townsend says the free labor is helping the city renovation operate within a limited budget.
The building was also given to the city for free, and local businesses have donated labor and materials for the project too.
Townsend says the inmates seem to enjoy doing something to better the community, and the work assignment has other benefits too.
"It gives them a chance to add some of the skills they didn't have maybe when they were incarcerated," he says.
The city hopes to complete the project in February, and thanks to all the donations it should come in under budget.
