It's the time of year for food and fun functions. But keeping your physique with those eats can be tough.

Mica Mitchell with Fayetteville Athletic Club said that healthy decisions actually start before you walk out the door.

"I always recommend eating a good amount of a healthy meal prior to going to parties. Don't say, 'Oh, I'm just not going to eat anything' and then you'll end up splurging way too much at parties."

When it comes to seasonal spirits, keep it simple.

"If you do wine, just make sure to have portion control with it. Same thing with champagne. If you're going to drink hard alcohol, stick to clear and watch the mixers because that's where most of the calories come from," said Mica.

"Stick with your workouts, let yourself have treats here and there and just maintain during the holidays and have a jump start on the new year. You don't want to hold that back, you want to have what you want in moderation and enjoy your life."
